There are four characteristics of a "true" online application. They are..

1. Nothing to purchase, no up front acquisition costs.
2. 100% of the features are available remotely, on any computer and at any time
3. There is nothing to install, no hardware or software or special devices.
4. The program can be run through a browser using current Microsoft technology.

Synergy recognized over 6 years ago that the fundraising software industry was going to need online technology.  We invested in the development of a true online application that would meet the needs of non profits and utilize the most up to date technologies.  Other software vendors, including Blackbaud, decided to stay on the old platform.  The old technology was stable and paid for.  Like those companies that did not anticipate the move from DOS to Windows, many companies waited too long to transition from Windows to Browser-based and they have gone out of business.  Examples include FundMaster (Master Software), JSI Paradigm (Millennium), and Campaign Associates.

Blackbaud also was slow to recognize the need for online technology.  They currently claim to have an online application; however, the concept of using Terminal Services is a patchwork attempt to meet the need.  They are using old technologies to salvage their lack of investment in the new technology.  They have taken old technology and “band-aided” things together with terminal services.  It would be similar to dressing a high school student in a nursing uniform and asking them to perform actual nursing duties in a hospital.

eTapestry

We respect the work that eTapestry does and recognize them as a legitimate competitor using current technology. We compete with them daily and are quite familiar with their offerings.

At first glance their product looks good.  And, in a basic sense, it is good.  DenariOnline, however, is in a different class in several senses of the word.

1. Technology – eTapestry is written using a form of scripts which cause it to run slowly.  DenariOnline is optimized for speed and has some very large customers doing hundreds of gift transactions per day.  A detailed demo should prove this point.
2. Scalability – DenariOnline is written and engineered to allow for large sized organizations to use it effectively.  This has to do with our scaled server configuration.  And yet, small customers find it useful and easy as well.
3. Integration of Advanced Modules – the most stark difference between eTapestry and DenariOnline is the tight integration of innovative and advanced modules. We have been told on numerous occasions that we have a far more complete set of modules, and that they are well integrated.
